Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) on Sunday claimed that President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for FBI Director, Kash Patel, didn’t need to be rushed through the confirmation process because the FBI is currently “very functional.”

CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper asked Klobuchar if the Senate should consider moving quickly to confirm Trump’s national security nominees in light of the recent terror attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas.

“You have signaled some opposition to Kash Patel serving as leader of the FBI but Republicans say delaying his confirmation will hurt operational security. How do you respond to that?” he asked her.

Klobuchar said, “We have a very functional FBI right now that is investigated New Orleans, investigated, Las Vegas came out, told the public exactly what was going on. So I don’t believe that to be the case.”

“I believe our job. We just took an oath. I just took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. We have a duty to advise and consent. A number of our Republican colleagues in the Senate agree. That’s why we must have an FBI check on Kash Patel and these other nominees for these very serious security positions.”

“We must know what their background is. We must see their financial disclosure forms. The president elect has put in a number of billionaires that could have all kinds of conflicts into these jobs,” she added.

If the FBI is so functional, why did the public’s approval of the bureau collapse from 59% to 41% over the last decade?

Its central role in advancing the lawfare campaigns against Donald Trump aside — including the raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022 — the FBI’s opaque and deceptive conduct likely has something to do with the steady erosion of the public’s trust.

For example, the FBI has been withholding key information on the Jan. 6 “pipe bomber” for the last several years, and only in the last week has suddenly decided to release new details about the suspect 4 years later.

If a Democrat dimwit like Klobuchar says the FBI is “functional,” one can surmise that the opposite is true.
