Lyin’ Biden: No Evidence ‘People Being Paid to Stay Home Rather Than Go to Work’

Actually tons of evidence shows exactly that -- businesses can't compete with generous government unemployment benefits.

Joe Biden gaslighted the American people once again on Monday, insisting that “we don’t see much evidence” of people choosing to stay home collecting government welfare rather than work.

“There’s been a lot of discussion since a Friday’s report that people are being paid to stay home rather than go to work. We don’t see much evidence of that,” Biden said during a speech.

Biden is lying: there is a plethora of evidence showing precisely that.

For example, many restaurants in New York City claim they’re suffering a shortage of workers because they “can’t compete” with Biden’s unemployment payments.

“If I was working a back-breaking job and making $600 a week and I had had the option of making $600 and not breaking my back — the choice is obvious,” said Philippe Massoud, CEO of the Lebanese eatery Ilili.

“The government unintentionally shot itself in the foot,” he said. “The stimulus plan is being completely undermined by the unemployment program.”

In Florida, the Flagler Beach Business Bureau said Biden’s government must “stop competing” with businesses to get people back to work.

“We are doing everything possible to sustain our businesses, but it’s time we stop competing with our government for who people are getting their paychecks from,” said president John Lulgjuraj and VP Scott Fox in a statement.

Biden’s remarks also contradict the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who blasted Biden’s $300-a-week federal jobless benefits last week following the shockingly bad April 2021 jobs report.

“The disappointing jobs report makes it clear that paying people not to work is dampening what should be a stronger jobs market,” the Chamber said shortly after the Labor Department released the report.

“One step policymakers should take now is ending the $300 weekly supplemental unemployment benefit,” the lobbying group added. “Based on the Chamber’s analysis, the $300 benefit results in approximately one in four recipients taking home more in unemployment than they earned working.”

According to a University of Chicago study, it’s actually much higher, finding unemployment recipients received 42% more money than they did during their last jobs.

Notably, Biden evidently doesn’t believe his own weak lies, because in the same speech he warned that “anyone collecting unemployment who is offered a suitable job must take the job or lose their unemployment benefits.”
