Rep. Nancy Mace has introduced a bill to stop the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from paying for illegal immigrants to be housed.
Rep. Mace described the Biden era policies as “insanity” and added “it stops now.”
She announced the bill, called the “Alien Removal Not Resort Stays Act,” in a press release on Friday. The bill aims to close FEMA’s shelter program for illegal aliens and redirect its funding to ICE’s detention and deportation program.
FEMA has been spending millions of dollars housing illegal immigrants across the nation.
This month, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncovered a $59 million FEMA payment to house illegals in New York hotels. In 2023, New York Mayor Eric Adams revealed that half of all hotels across the city were housing illegal immigrants.
The Biden administration categorically denied that FEMA money was being used to house illegal immigrants.
“It’s just categorically false. It is not true,” former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters in October 2024, after saying the opposite at a press conference in 2022.
“The past four years have been a free-for-all for illegal aliens—sanctuary cities handing out benefits and Biden’s DHS waving people through like it’s a theme park entrance,” said Mace in her statement.
“The left has spent billions of our tax dollars housing illegal aliens in hotels. It’s insanity, and it stops now. If you break our laws, you shouldn’t get a taxpayer-funded stay at a resort—you should be detained and deported. It’s time to shut off the gravy train.”
FEMA was also in the headlines during the aftermath of Hurricane Helene late last year, when it was revealed that aid was withheld from disaster-stricken Trump supporters because of their political allegiance.
