Just hours after he allegedly set fire to a massive Christmas tree outside a New York City building hosting Fox News, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post, a 49-year-old homeless man named Craig Tamanaha was back on the street.
The burning of the 50-foot tree, decorated with 10,000 glass ornaments and 100,000 lights, cost an estimated $500,000 in damages.
Thanks to Democrat-sponsored bail reforms passed in January 2020, Tamanaha could not be held on bail and was released within hours of his arrest.
However, the homeless New Yorker is set to appear in court on January 4 in relation to the Christmas tree incident.
New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea told WPIX, “It’s an individual that’s known to us—he has a series of low-level arrests and drug arrests.”
Shea also noted that Tamanaha didn’t come back to court after being issued “appearance tickets” earlier this year, which leads one to question whether he will show up for his January 4th court appearance.
The accused arsonist said he “didn’t do it,” while walking by reporters outside a Manhattan criminal court on Wednesday night.
“The moms that want to rape their fucking daughters… they set it on fire,” he told the journalists.
In an insanely strange example of a small world, it turns out that Tamanaha is the same individual who allegedly flashed his genitalia to journalists outside the Ghislaine Maxwell trial last week.
Speaking with the New York Post, the suspect’s father said, “Oh, he’s a nut. I can’t control him. Mentally, he’s not all there.”
A memo from Fox CEO Suzanne Scott stated, “Fox News Media and Fox Corporation have made a $100,000 donation to Answer the Call, which provides financial assistance to the families of fallen service members of the FDNY and NYPD, the two agencies who responded immediately to our very own emergency.”
The tree will be rebuilt and redecorated in time for Christmas.
