Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said the Senate should consider removing Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) through the 14th Amendment for objecting to the election results.
Speaking on PBS’s “Firing Line” on Friday, Manchin accused Cruz and Hawley of inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol by convincing supporters that the election was fraudulent.
“They should look, absolutely. That should be a consideration,” Manchin responded when asked if the 14th Amendment should be triggered.
“He understands that, Ted’s a very bright individual, and I get along fine with Ted. But what he did was totally outside of the realm of our responsibilities or our privileges.”
The 14th Amendment reads that no lawmaker holding office “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”
Cruz and Hawley simply objected to the fraudulent election results in the Senate on January 6th, which Democrats seized as “inciting insurrection” following the riot the Capitol.
Notably, many of the riot participants have been found to be Antifa members or anarchists, according to the FBI.
In fact, the FBI also discovered that the riot was planned long in advance, and took place as President Trump was delivering a speech at the The Ellipse, proving he and other Republicans did not incite the riot.
