Wild conspiracy theories claim Infowars founder Alex Jones’ text messages, recently turned over to the Jan. 6 committee, could be the reason behind Monday’s raid on Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago resort.
Following the unprecedented FBI raid on the former president’s home, many correlated its timing with the fact Jones’ texts – which were unlawfully obtained by prosecutors during the Sandy Hook trial last week – were recently delivered to the Jan. 6 House Select Committee.
CNN host Erin Burnett, without proof, was among the first in the media to float the possibility Jones’ texts may have led to the raid.
“[The raid] comes on the same day that Jan. 6 Select Committee is now in possession of new text messages, messages that we understand belong to conspiracy theorist and Trump supporter Alex Jones,” Burnett breathlessly reported Monday.

The UK’s Daily Mail also ran an article linking the two events, with a trademark novel-length headline stating, “FBI Raided Mar-a-Lago TODAY – just hours after Infowars host Alex Jones handed two years of texts to January 6 committee: Trump confirms ‘my home was under siege by large group of agents who even broke into my safe.”
Left-leaning social media users were also keen to jump on the conspiracy theory if it meant the downfall of two key political foes:

I bet you Alex Jones's texts gave the FBI probable cause to raid Trump's residence. Trump was probably texting Jones recently.

Some even went as far as to fabricate fake texts between Jones and Trump:

CNN’s Oliver Darcy on Monday claimed Jones’ texts had been handed over to the House Select Committee by Sandy Hook attorney Mark Bankston, although he added, “It is unclear if the Justice Department had received the texts as of Monday afternoon. The Justice Department declined to comment.”
Darcy later claimed on CNN New Day that Jones’ texts merely reveal he was speaking to people “in Trump’s orbit.”

On Monday, Bankston told The Young Turks his team had found “a naked photo of Jones’s wife sent to [Roger] Stone, once an adviser to former president Donald Trump,” the Guardian reports. Bankston next spun allegations that Jones had shared the photo without his wife’s consent.

On Tuesday, Jones pre-empted that line of thinking by showing one of the texts in question on-air during a live broadcast of the Alex Jones Show, effectively throwing cold water on Bankston’s ridiculous allegations.
While the timing of Jones’ text dump and the raid on Mar-A-Lago do correlate, the FBI’s justification for the raid is supposedly related to classified documents Trump may have improperly taken with him from the White House.
To be clear, there’s no incriminating evidence on Jones’ phone or elsewhere that would necessitate a SWAT team raid on the president’s home.
