An already short-staffed U.S. Navy decided to enlist a drag queen to recruit troops to join the branch in what many are comparing to the recent Bud Light debacle where Anheuser-Busch lost billions of dollars for partnering with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.
24-year-old non-binary Navy sailor Joshua Kelly, who performs as a drag queen known as “Harpy Daniels,” was promoted by the military to “boost morale” and target a wider range of recruits back in November.
Political strategist and podcast host Steve Bannon noted the Navy is already short on recruits due to the far-left ideology being pushed by the woke brass, and joked the drag queen Navy may not be fit to defeat the Chinese military in a gun battle if a war broke out.
A Navy spokeswoman explained the digital ambassador program that promoted Kelly was a pilot no longer in use.
The Navy Digital Ambassador Program was a pilot initiative designed to explore the digital environment to reach a wide range of potential candidates as the Navy navigates the most challenging recruiting environment it has faced since the start of the all-volunteer force.
The spokeswoman said the Navy is currently “evaluating the program and how it will exist in the future.”
Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti wrote to the House Armed Services Committee last month, explaining the branch is failing to meet its recruiting goals for both active duty and reserve troops.
“In FY23, we expect to miss our active duty recruiting goal 8,000 Sailors short of our 37,700 goal,” she wrote. “Additionally, we expect to finish 3,000 Sailors short of our 10,330 recruiting goal for the Navy Reserve.”
If the Mulvaney-Bud Light backlash showed anything, it’s that the far-left LGBTQ movement is not the most popular group to deploy as spokespeople.
