Mexican drug cartels are placing explosives on roads leading into America near the Texas border, according to several local news outlets and officials from both countries.

WOAI San Antonio reports cartel members near Brownsville, Texas have been caught putting deadly devices near streets used by individuals commuting to and from Tamaulipas, Mexico.

While some experts assume the explosives are linked to ongoing wars between rivaling cartels, others point out they could be threats or warnings directed at President Donald Trump’s escalating deportation efforts.

Fox San Antonio reports, “Concerns persist that the explosives could be a form of retaliation or warning, especially following President Donald Trump’s recent executive order designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.”

Last week, a pair of hikers in Jacumba, California were shot at and robbed by Mexican drug cartel members, with a bullet striking one of the men in the leg.

Things are certainly heating up on the U.S.-Mexico border while America fights to secure the country under the new Trump administration.
