Border agents busted a large group of Romanian citizens, including two people on a transnational organized crime list, after they stormed into Maine during a “4-vehicle border rush” this week, according to reports.
The incident unfolded just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning in Hogdon, a rural settlement that lies across the border from New Brunswick.
Agents in Border Patrol’s Houlton Sector were alerted about a caravan of vehicles that entered illegally from Canada.
“Border Patrol was able to stop the vehicles by utilizing emergency equipment and the individuals were transported to Fort Fairfield Station for processing,” Customs and Border Protection (CBP) explained in a press release.
In total, 20 suspects were apprehended, all of whom were citizens of Romania, including 10 adults and 10 juveniles.
Two of the suspects were matches on a Transnational Criminal Organized Crime list and processed for Expedited Removal proceedings, CBP said.
“This incident is indicative of an overall rise in apprehensions witnessed here in Houlton Sector,” said Acting Patrol Agent in Charge Dennis Harmon.
“In the last three Octobers, Houlton Sector encountered a total of 33 individuals. In fiscal year 2024 alone, we’ve encountered 55. While this increase poses challenges to Border Patrol resources, it does not dissuade the great work done by our dedicated Agents here in Houlton Sector.”

In September, an American citizen was injured when their vehicle was struck by a car filled with Romanian citizens who illegally crossed the U.S.-Canada border into Washington state.
