As Philadelphians riot in response to police shooting the knife-wielding criminal Walter Wallace Jr., the Pennsylvania metropolis’ city council voted to take non-lethal munitions away from law enforcement.

Following days of looting, rioting, assaulting police, media and others, the Philadelphia City Council voted on Thursday to ban the use of “less than lethal” force on “protesters.”

Philadelphia is officially the largest U.S. city to pass such a restriction.

Despite the violent and destructive behavior of many individuals, the city council is proud of putting their law enforcement officers in danger.

“The ban passes at a time of demonstrations and unrest after the police shooting of Walter Wallace Jr., and days before an election where demonstrations are expected regardless of the result,” the council said in a press release.

Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Roosevelt Poplar, criticized the decision, saying, “So, basically, you’re taking away non-lethal munitions, and you’re leaving them with only one tool, and that’s a deadly weapon tool, which is a gun.”

In addition to leaving Philadelphia Police officers with nothing but their firearms, Deputy Police Commissioner Melvin Singleton allegedly ordered them to “not arrest looters just disperse them.”

Over 30 officers have been injured so far, but to see how bad the Philly riots have been this week, check out the following videos.
