In an interview with The New York Times published Tuesday, former President Barack Obama described the Biden administration as an extension of his presidency.
Speaking with the Times‘ Ezra Klein, Obama explained, “I think that what we’re seeing now, is Joe and the administration are essentially finishing the job. And I think it’ll be an interesting test. Ninety percent of the folks who were there in my administration, they are continuing and building on the policies we talked about…”
Hypothesizing on why the American people rejected the Democrat party after eight years of Obama and voted for Donald Trump, Barack said, “It’s hard to just underscore how much the bank bailouts just angered everyone, including me.”
“And then you have this long, slow recovery,” he continued. “Although the economy recovers technically quickly, it’s another five years before we’re really back to people feeling like, ‘OK, the economy is moving and working for me.’”
“Let’s say a Democrat, a Joe Biden, or Hillary Clinton had immediately succeeded me, and the economy suddenly has 3% unemployment, I think we would have consolidated the sense that, ‘Oh, actually these policies that Obama put in place worked,’” Barack stated.
Obama then claimed President Trump benefited from his administration’s “economic stability and growth” despite “interrupting” their policies.
“That clouds what I think would have been a more impactful shift in political views towards Democrats as a result of my presidency,” he said.
Barack is hopeful the Biden administration can implement some of the far-left agenda he couldn’t get done in the eight years he had in the White House, saying, “If they’re successful over the next four years, as I think they will be, I think that will have an impact.”
