An armed pedophile wanted for shooting a Florida sheriff’s deputy made the ill-fated decision to hide inside a home displaying a Trump flag.
Upon invading the home, the fugitive encountered an armed homeowner who stood his ground and shot the suspect dead.
A photo shared by the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office of the homeowner’s house showed a Trump 2020 flag displayed outside the home.
The sheriff’s office reported via Facebook Wednesday the suspect had shot a Taylor County sheriff’s deputy during a routine traffic stop the previous day.
“Throughout the night DCSO deputies along with assisting agencies searched extensively for the suspect, to no avail,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a bulletin, adding the officer was stable after being air lifted to a hospital.
On Wednesday after a Blue Alert was issued, the suspect surfaced in a report out of Tennille, Florida, where a resident reported shooting an armed intruder.
“Upon arrival deputies made contact with the homeowner who stated he had exchanged gunfire with the armed suspect after he entered their home,” described the Dixie County Sheriff’s office. “The suspect was deceased when deputies arrived at the residence.”
Police noted the suspect had stashed several guns in strategic locations outside the home, possibly in anticipation of an ambush.
The deceased suspect, Gregory Miedema, 33, had previously been convicted of raping a minor, and various other sex crimes.
“Miedema was convicted in 2011 while serving the in the U.S. Army on one count of Lewd or Lascivious Battery, Intercourse with a Victim 12 to 15 Years Old and one count of Possession of Child Pornography. He was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison followed by two months of probation,” reports the Sarasota County Sheriff’s office.
