Pennsylvania Republicans Pressure ‘Absent’ Sen. Fetterman to Show Face, or Resign

Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania want newly-elected Democrat US Sen. John Fetterman to show his face or resign.

The new senator, who was sworn into office Jan. 3 after defeating Republican opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz in a hotly-contested race last November, has been MIA since mid-February, when he was checked into the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center reportedly suffering clinical depression.

“Regarding the absent Senator,” the Washington County Republican Party wrote in a press release Monday.

“Because of the now confirmed lies that were told during the 2022 general election regarding the health of Senator John Fetterman, as well as the threats made against a journalist who interviewed him, the Washington County Republican Party refuses to take assurances from the Office of the Senator or Democrat operatives that Fetterman is able to carry out his duties as Senator.”

“As such,” the Republicans continued, “we call upon Senator Fetterman to appear on camera to show us he is alive and well, and if he is unable to do so, we call upon our elected Representatives in Washington, Senator Casey and Congressman Reschenthaler, to intervene immediately.”

“Ultimately, if Fetterman is unable or unwilling to carry out his duties as a United States Senator, then we ask for his resignation and call for a special election to be held this year; no more lies or games.”

Meanwhile, anonymous Fetterman aides told the Associated Press doctors say it could take “weeks” to fully treat him.

Concerns over Fetterman’s health have persisted since before the November midterms, with opponents arguing he was mentally unfit to serve due to speech problems he exhibited on the campaign trail after a stroke he had last May.

As her husband’s being treated for “severe” depression, his wife Giselle has been criticized for hightailing it with the kids to Canada after she stuck by Fetterman’s side during his Senate campaign.

The junior senator’s absence is his second since being installed in January after being hospitalized for lightheadedness last month.
