Former president Donald Trump leads Kamala Harris in four key swing states, according to Emerson College Polling.
The polls, released on Thursday, show that Trump leads the de facto Democrat nominee in Arizona (49-44), Georgia (48-46), Michigan (46-45) and Pennsylvania (48-46) and is tied with her in Wisconsin (47-47).
New York Times polling also suggests that Trump, not Harris, is seen as the candidate to “bring about the right kind of change.” A majority of registered voters said they believed Trump would change the nation for the better if he became president, whereas only 47% said the same about Harris.
Sixty percent of respondents said Trump is a strong leader, against Harris’s 47%.
Overall, according to The Times, Trump has a two-point lead over Kamala at the end of her first week as the presumptive nominee, despite a significant social-media campaign, including so-called “brat” memes aimed at making Kamala appealing to Gen-Z voters, and the “bounce” new candidates tend to experience in such situations. Whether Kamala will receive a larger boost from the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for 19-22 August, remains to be seen.
