Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the Biden administration “failed” in its withdrawal plan for Afghanistan as the Taliban is poised to completely take over the country.
“It looks like the Biden administration has just failed in its execution of its own plan,” Pompeo told “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace, adding that this marks a pattern in Biden’s disastrous foreign policy.
“We’ve had Iranian rockets land in Israel, we’ve handed a pipeline back to the Russians, we’ve allowed the Chinese to castigate our senior leadership in Anchorage, now we’re allowing the Taliban to run free and wild all around Afghanistan,” he said.
Pompeo also called Biden “pathetic” for trying to place blame on President Trump.
“If the risks weren’t so serious, Chris, it would be pathetic,” Pompeo said.
“He should be less focused on trying to blame this on someone else than on solving the problem of making sure we protect and defend American security,” he said. “It is worth noting this did not happen on our watch.”
Pompeo added that the U.S. reduced their forces in Afghanistan under Trump while managing to keep the Taliban at bay.
“The plan should have been, much like we had, that we had an orderly conditions-based way to think about how to draw down our forces there,” Pompeo said.
“We made abundantly clear that if they did not live up to that piece of paper…we weren’t going to allow them to just walk away from any deal that they struck, we were going to go crush them,” he added.
Pompeo’s remarks come after Biden recently proclaimed it “highly unlikely” that the Taliban would overrun Afghanistan and force out the U.S.-backed government.
“No, it is not, because there the afghan troops have 300,000 well-equipped — as well-equipped as any army in the world — and an air force against something like 75,000 Taliban. It is not inevitable.”
Similar to the the 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake that rocked Haiti, the Taliban is a force of nature causing tectonic shifts under a crumbling Biden Administration lead by the nose by an incompetent Defense Department that has mismanaged the effort in Afghanistan from day one.
