President Joe Biden’s federal agencies are continuing to purge the term “alien” to describe foreign nationals living in the United States, often illegally, in favor of the term “noncitizen,” a report reveals.

In April, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ordered officials to stop describing foreign nationals in the U.S. as “aliens” and instead use the term “noncitizen” regardless of an individual’s immigration status.

The order conflates visa workers, green card-holders, and illegal aliens as “noncitizens.”

That same month, Biden’s United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) started removing the term “alien” from its agency manual to be “more inclusive.”

According to the Center for Immigration Studies’ Robert Law, USCIS is continuing to purge the term “alien” — which is used more than 1,700 times in its manual — from the agency’s website.

Law reports:

Apparently, this is quite a labor-intensive task, as USCIS is still making updates 10 months later. Just this week alone, USCIS swapped “alien” for “noncitizen” on the following webpages:

  • December 7: Green Cards for Asylees; Conrad 30 Waiver Program; GB Temporary Visitor to Guam; H-2B Temporary Non-Agricultural Workers; P-1B A Member of an Internationally Recognized Entertainment Group;
  • December 8: Working in the United States; and
  • December 9: Visa Availability and Priority Dates and E-1 Treaty Traders
