CNN President Jeff Zucker will step down at the end of the year, according to reports.
During a company call, Zucker apparently told employees he would be leaving CNN when his contract ends.
“So, as a result, I am going to stay and finish my current contract — which, as I said, will keep me here until the end of this year. At that point, I do expect to move on,” he said on Thursday, according to Variety.
The controversial president likely sees the writing on the wall for traditional media after Trump left the White House; the 45th president was routinely credited for “saving” mainstream media which was suffering from a multi-year ratings collapse.
But now, without a ratings-driver like Trump, the media will struggle to sustain audience interest day-in and day-out.
It’s also worth watching what happens to Twitter after Trump’s removal from the platform, as he was likewise credited with giving the social media platform relevance over the past few years.
