A bill introduced on Wednesday by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) aims to repeal the unpopular Patriot Act, among other things.

Besides trashing the Patriot Act, the pair of House members proposed the bipartisan legislation hoping to stop the government’s surveillance of Americans without a warrant and probable cause.

Titled, The Protect Our Civil Liberties Act, the bill “reexamines how best to strike this balance of protecting our national security interests while also ensuring that the constitutional rights of every single American is preserved,” according to Gabbard.

“Protection of our civil liberties is essential,” she added. “Join us in making sure that our constitutional rights are upheld. The intelligence community has not been transparent or honest with the American people or even Congress about what they’ve been doing.”

Tulsi also noted the legislation would make it harder for the federal government to retaliate against whistleblowers like Edward Snowden.

Rep. Massie retweeted Gabbard’s video on the bill, writing, “I’m honored to co-sponsor a bill to repeal the Patriot Act with my friend across the aisle @TulsiGabbard.”

Meanwhile, President Trump is threatening to veto the National Defense Authorization Act, which is just as much a threat to our Constitution as the Patriot Act.
