RINO Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) poured cold water on the future of the new Texas law that bans abortions upon detection of a fetal heartbeat, claiming the Supreme Court will soon strike down the bill.

In ABC News’s This Week on Sunday, host George Stephanopoulos asked Cassidy what he thought of the “underlying substance” of Senate Bill 8.

“I think the Supreme Court will swat it away once it comes to them in an appropriate manner,” Cassidy said. “If it is as terrible as people say it is, it will be destroyed by the Supreme Court.”

The bill is pretty straightforward: it effectively bans abortions in the Lone Star State when a fetal heartbeat is detected, which often happen at around six weeks of pregnancy, and allows citizens to sue clinics who perform abortions for up to $10,000.

Cassidy claimed that the Supreme Court’s recent decision to uphold the Texas law last week “had nothing to do with the constitutionality of Roe v. Wade, it was only on if the plaintiffs had standing.”

The RINO Louisiana senator added that Democrats are making a big fuss about the bill to “distract” from Biden’s debacle in Afghanistan.

“People are using it to gin up their base to distract from disastrous policies in Afghanistan, maybe for fundraising appeals,” Cassidy said.

Why is a supposedly pro-life Senator signaling opposition to the Texas bill by suggesting it could be “terrible”?
