Shocking footage out of The Big Apple shows the terrifying moment a man shoved an unsuspecting commuter onto the subway tracks just moments before a train approached.

Kamal Hawkins, 23, who pushed the 45-year-old victim onto the subway tracks around 1:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, was arrested shortly after the incident and is facing charges of second degree attempted murder and assault.

Surveillance video shows Hawkins walking around the station at 18th Street in Chelsea in front of a man wearing an orange coat who’s preoccupied with his phone near the platform, while two riders jump the turnstiles.

Hawkins suddenly shoves the man in the coat onto the tracks just as the train arrives, with the two turnstile jumpers jumping back over the turnstiles to flee.

Miraculously, the man shoved onto the tracks survived.

Fox 5 NY reports: “Police say the man was…struck by a southbound No. 1 train. He was rushed to Bellvue Hospital in critical but stable condition.”

Democrat Mayor Eric Adams released a statement condemning the attack as an “appalling act of violence”:

Hawkins reportedly has a lengthy criminal record and has previously served time for attacking a law enforcement officer, but he may have benefited from the city’s liberal prosecutors and their soft-on-crime bail reform policies.

The New York Post reports:

The accused shover was charged with assault in June 2019 after slamming a cop to the ground on Flushing Avenue when the officer spotted him acting disorderly, leaving the cop with a back injury, according to sources.

“Anyone who attacks a cop in full uniform is capable of doing far worse to defenseless civilians,” Police Benevolent Association president Patrick Hendry told The Post.

“Every time our justice system drops the ball on an assault on a police officer, it puts every New Yorker in danger,” said Henry.

Hawkins also has an open case in Brooklyn on assault, harassment and weapons possession charges for an incident on Oct. 12.

Sources said he was released without bail in another case in 2020 despite prosecutors asking that he be held, though it remains unclear what the charges were in that case.

The horrific incident follows a series of high-profile events involving New York City’s subway system, including the acquittal of subway rider Daniel Penny in the choking death of a violent rider threatening others, and an illegal immigrant who killed a woman by setting her on fire last week.
