Savanah Hernandez spoke to the Deputy Constable of Eagle Pass who shared that apprehensions at his section of the border have reached almost a million since January of this year.
Overall 2.1 million people illegally crossed last year. In this specific sector the numbers have already surpassed last year’s high by nearly double.
In Eagle Pass we watched as illegal immigrants crossed from Mexico into the US. After they are picked up and processed by Border Patrol, a non-governmental organization will give the migrants food, phones and other supplies before taking them to the bus station.
Migrants at this bus stop shared that they were paying for their own bus tickets, however, they received “free” phones from the NGOs helping them.

Border patrol tells us the current in the river is strong and oftentimes migrants will drown trying to make the journey across.
These migrants ended up crossing, with National Guard and Border Patrol sharing they see upwards of 100 illegal crossings per day.
