Twitter Censors Detroit News After Editorial Board Endorses Republican Senate Candidate

Following The Detroit News’ endorsement of GOP candidate John James for US Senate, Twitter moved to censor the publication telling users to do their research before sharing the article.

On Thursday, the paper published an op-ed detailing their endorsement of James, who’s competing against Democrat incumbent Gary Peters.

“Michigan would gain increased influence and better representation for its people in the U.S. Senate by electing John James,” the paper told readers, a bold declaration considering Wayne County is predominantly Democrat.

“It would also send to the Senate a natural leader who could well become one of the chamber’s most powerful members.”

James has also been championed by President Donald Trump, who last month gave his “total and complete endorsement” of James for Senate.

The News went on to outline why James would be a better leader than Peters, adding the fact he is an Iraq war veteran.

“Leadership is in James’ DNA. He helped lead his family’s successful auto supply business. As an Army Ranger pilot, he led soldiers in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom,” the News wrote.

“We believe John James has the potential to become an influential senator who, while putting Michigan first, will also speak for a group of Americans who are greatly underrepresented in the Senate,” the paper concluded.

After Twitter users attempted to share the paper’s endorsement, many noticed a prompt telling them to read the article before sharing, a subtle form of throttling content.

“Headlines don’t tell the full story,” a Twitter prompt told users. “You can read the article on Twitter before retweeting.

“Twitter doesn’t want you you know that @detroitnews endorsed @JohnJamesMI,” one twitter user noted.

The implicit blacklisting of the article comes as Twitter has been criticized for censoring content from the New York Post about Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son Hunter. In that case, Twitter not only locked the NY Post out of their account for days on end, but also banned users who dared to promote the article, which many assert is important information for voters to know mere days ahead of the election.

“Why is Twitter placing an unnecessary warning on the story?” asks PJ Media. “Is it because John James, an African American Republican, is polling well in the race and could win, and his victory could decide which party will control the Senate?”
