President Trump will continue to ramp up efforts to secure U.S. borders and clear illegal aliens out of the country for years to come, according to a former top official.
Chad Wolf, current executive director of the America First Policy Institute, served as acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security from 2019 to 2020 during Trump’s first term in office.
“People have asked me, ‘When is it going to slow down?’ I’ll tell you – I don’t think it’s slowing down for two years. I think it’s going to be this type of velocity over the next two years,” Wolf stated during a panel discussion on immigration at CPAC 2025.
“They’re going to continue to do what’s right for the American people and change the dynamic we’ve seen over the past several decades here in the United States.”
“I give President Trump a lot of credit. He’s a unique politician that has decided to tackle this issue head-on. This is a difficult issue because it elicits a lot of emotion in people, and he’s kind of pushed that to the side and said, ‘I’m going to do what’s best for Americans and American security, and I’m just going to bring some common sense back to our immigration and border security policy,'” he asserted.
Wolf explained that American voters have clearly rejected a globalist propaganda campaign designed to make Westerners believe mass migration from the Third World is inevitable and unstoppable.
“What you see over these past four weeks is that policy actually matters, deterrence actually matters, accountability actually matters, and engaging with our foreign partners – like Mexico and Canada and others in the region – matters, if you do it the right way and don’t just throw money at them and not demand results. If you actually hold them accountable, you actually get results.”
Wolf pointed out that the number of prospective foreign nationals who hope to ‘migrate’ to the U.S. has not changed dramatically in recent years, but President Trump is eliminating pull factors put in place by prior administrations.
“To get asylum protections here in the U.S. is very difficult to do, and yet we’ve seen hundreds of thousands, millions of folks coming here that will never qualify for asylum being let into the United States with a hearing date six years from now,” Wolf said.
“That’s not the way the immigration system was devised by Congress, it’s the way it’s unfolded over a number of years. And just like Elon now with DOGE, and others, it takes a course correction to get it back on track.”
“You’re supposed to detain people who come here illegally. You’re supposed to put them through an immigration court proceeding quickly. Give them a relief if they qualify for it, and if they don’t, move them out and repatriate them back to their home country,” he continued.
Wolf said the Trump administration has a complicated mess to clean up and conceded it “won’t happen overnight,” but said he expects the President will continue to expect and produce positive results.
