Authorities in Texas arrested a male illegal alien from Venezuela who allegedly robbed and murdered a female migrant from Honduras last month, according to reports.
The case unfolded on the afternoon of May 21 when authorities were alerted about an unresponsive woman at the Budget Lodge Motel in El Paso.
Emergency responders discovered the body of Carmen Unilda Navas Zuniga, a 40-year-old Honduran woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators deemed the death suspicious and launched a probe.
“Detectives learned that additional people had stayed in the room and identified 34-year-old Eddy Jose Ortega Alvarado as a person of interest,” KTSM reports.
“Police learned that Ortega had left El Paso and was in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.”
El Paso detectives caught up with Alvarado in Fort Worth on June 2 and following an interview, he was taken into custody and booked on a capital murder warrant at Tarrant County Jail.
The suspect is expected to be extradited to El Paso in the coming days.
Both Alvarado and Zuniga entered the United States on May 20 and were processed by Border Patrol, sources told Border Report.
An investigation is ongoing.
