Joe Biden’s Communications Director John Kirby tip-toed around the topic of the anti-Chinese Communist Party protests that have been sweeping across China, refusing to show support for the people demonstrating against state oppression.
When asked about the Biden administration’s official position on the so-called White Paper rebellion that erupted in response to the CCP’s oppressive lockdown policies, Kirby said he doesn’t want to “speak” for the protesters.
“The President’s not going to speak for protesters around the world. They’re speaking for themselves,” Kirby said Monday.

“So there’s no reaction?” the reporter asked.
Kirby repeated: “The protesters are speaking for themselves. What we are doing is making it clear that we support the right of peaceful protest.”
Kirby’s talking point reiterated what many have already panned as a “weak” statement by a National Security Council spokesperson on Monday, who offered only a mild criticism of China’s “zero-COVID strategy.”
“As we’ve said, we think it’s going to be very difficult for the People’s Republic of China to be able to contain this virus through their zero Covid strategy,” the spokesperson said in the statement. “We’ve long said everyone has the right to peacefully protest, here in the United States and around the world. This includes in the PRC.”
Look at this completely weak sauce statement from the White House on the current protests in China.

Notably, the statement makes no mention of the specific COVID policies the Chinese people are demonstrating against such as harsh lockdowns and total surveillance.
The White Paper Revolution is thought to be the most significant anti-government demonstration in China since the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989.
