Speaking after returning from a heavily criticised trip to Europe, Nancy Pelosi appeared to confuse Ukraine with Hungary, expressing concern that the country is surrounded by America’s enemies.
“If you look at the map and you see Hungary and you see how it is encircled…Russia, Belarus, Crimea,” Pelosi said.
Watch:
Pelosi openly compared Putin to Hitler, stating “This is a very evil move on the part of Vladimir Putin,” adding “This, my friends, is our moment. This is a Sudetenland,” referring to Hitler’s annexation of the native German-speaking regions of former Czechoslovakia in 1938.
Meanwhile, Putin himself declared that he is fighting against Nazism.
Pelosi added that Putin “does not want the Russian people to see what democracy looks like,” and that he is “a master of KGB, KGB, KGB, KGB.”
“It’s stunning to see in this day and age a tyrant roll into a country. This is the same tyrant who attacked our democracy in 2016,” Pelosi also said of Putin, dredging up tired claims of interference in the U.S. election that saw President Trump take office.
When asked if Biden should have placed harsher sanctions on Russia sooner than now Pelosi said she “respects Biden’s judgment and the goal of the international community to be unified in its response.”
“I think you are frankly wasting your time on something that is after the fact,” Pelosi said to a reporter who continued to suggest stronger actions should have been taken by the U.S. last year.
