A CNN panelist argued that Joe Biden’s blanket pardon of his son Hunter was necessary because President-elect Donald Trump has floated the use of “firing squads” when he assumes office.
CNN host Abby Phillip on Monday asked content creator Leigh McGowan if Biden’s pledge not to pardon Hunter turned out to be a lie.
“No! The circumstances have changed,” McGowan claimed. “We now have a president coming into office who’s talking about firing squads, who’s talking about running people around the country making sure everyone who’s his enemy is going to be punished.”

Look at Scott Jennings' face in reaction – lmao.

McGowan’s dishonest characterization prompted Republican CNN contributor Scott Jennings to roll his eyes to the ceiling in exasperation.
Jennings reminded her that Joe Biden’s pardon of Hunter covers an 11-year span dating back to 2014 and went on to point out the Biden regime and legacy media plotted to lie to the American people about Biden’s intention to pardon Hunter until after the election.
“They had a meeting, they coordinated the lie, I guess for political purposes, and now that he’s leaving office he’s going back on what he told the American people,” Jennings said. “This isn’t simply changing your mind. This is just fulfilling what you’ve always intended to do.”
Come for me on @cnn nailing Biden & his WH staff for lying, stay for me finding the apparent bipartisan consensus that Joe Biden’s DoJ is corrupt & engages in selective prosecutions for political reasons. (I’m a uniter, not a divider). pic.twitter.com/5rLVG2hNH5

“No Republican is shocked that he’s doing this. What I’m shocked at is the duplicity of the President of the United States and his top aides to come together and form this lie and stick to it this entire time. We all knew it was ridiculous, and now the American people are seeing what a disgrace he really is.”
Trump in 2023 reportedly discussed bringing back firing squads in the context of expanding federal death penalty execution methods — not of wantonly using firing squads against political opponents extrajudicially as McGowan claimed.
