The Environmental Protection Agency under President Donald Trump will work to recover billions of dollars – referred to as “gold bars” by an EPA advisor – funneled to left-wing climate change organizations by the Biden administration, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced Wednesday.
In a message Wednesday, the former Republican New York gubernatorial candidate said he was prompted to investigate the issue after an EPA contractor told an undercover Project Veritas reporter the agency was “on the Titanic and we’re throwing gold bars off the edge.”

“There will be a zero tolerance of any waste and abuse. In extremely disturbing video circulated two months ago featuring a Biden EPA political appointee talking about how they were tossing gold bars off the Titanic, rushing to get billions of your tax dollars out the door before Inauguration Day,” Zeldin described.
Zeldin said his EPA team was surprised to find the Biden admin had attempted to park $20 billion in taxpayer money “at an outside financial institution,” going on to name a leftist climate org that received billions.
“This scheme was the first of its kind in EPA history, and it was purposefully designed to obligate all of the money in a rush job, with reduced oversight. Even further, this pod of $20 billion was awarded to just eight entities that were then responsible for doling out your money to NGOs and others at their discretion, with far less transparency,” he said, going on to note the Climate United Fund received just under $7 billion from Biden.
Zeldin went on to say he’d work to reverse Biden’s misallocation of billions and return the taxpayer money back to government coffers, adding he’d also ask the Inspector General’s office and the DOJ to investigate.
The EPA admin’s push to recover the money follows undercover footage shot by Project Veritas showing EPA advisor Brent Efron admitting the environmental agency was funneling money to left-wing orgs, NGOs and non-profits as “an insurance policy against Trump winning.”
“We gave them [nonprofits] the money because… it was an insurance policy against Trump winning. Because they aren’t [a government agency], they’re safer from Republicans taking the money away,” Efron told an undercover Veritas reporter.
Zeldin brought up the video during his confirmation hearing last month, saying he was “concerned” by the advisor’s comments.
On Wednesday, the DOGE X account commended Zeldin on terminating 3 DEI contracts, which reportedly saved taxpayers an estimated $45 million.
