China responded to NATO’s moral exhibitionism on Ukraine by asserting, “We will never forget who bombed our embassy in Yugoslavia.”
Ouch, burn!
The reaction came as a response to NATO’s insistence that Beijing condemn Russia’s “brutal invasion” of Ukraine.
NATO probably wished they’d have never asked.
“Chinese people can fully relate to the pains and sufferings of other countries because we will never forget who had bombed our embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia,” China’s diplomatic mission in the EU said in a statement.

“We need no lecture on justice from the abuser of international law. As a Cold War remnant and the world’s largest military alliance, NATO continues to expand its geographical scope and range of operations. What kind of role it has played in world peace and stability? NATO needs to have good reflection.”
The bombing on the Chinese embassy in Belgrade took place on May 7, 1999 and killed three Chinese journalists while injuring 20 other Chinese nationals.
The bombing was actually conducted as a result of a CIA mission to target a Yugoslav military facility on the same street.
Initially it was claimed that the CIA had identified the wrong coordinates, but a subsequent investigation claimed that the bombing was actually deliberate because the embassy was being used to transmit Yugoslav army communications.
The Chinese government issued a public statement on the day of the bombing labeling it a “barbarian act.”
