White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki had a hard time explaining why the CDC is again recommending vaccinated Americans to wear face coverings.
In a flustered press conference Tuesday, Psaki attempted to navigate the mental gymnastics of the upcoming CDC mask recommendation by claiming the Covid threat is constantly “evolving.”
“The reality is we’re dealing with a much different strain of this virus than we were even earlier in the spring, back in May, when the masking guidance was provided by the CDC at that time,” Psaki said, referencing CDC recommendations in May relaxing mask rules for the vaccinated.
“That is their job. Their job is to look at evolving information, evolving data and evolving historic pandemic and provide guidance to the American public,” Psaki said.
“What is your message to Americans who are feeling whiplash right now?” one reporter asked. “Why should they trust the same group of health officials who just two months ago told them they don’t have to wear a mask anymore inside?”
“Because our goal is to save their lives,” Psaki responded. “And our responsibility and the responsibility of public health officials is to provide updated guidance.”
Psaki was later pressed on the matter by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, who asked the obvious question: “If vaccines work — then why do people who have the vaccine now need to wear masks? …Why do vaccinated people need to put the masks back on?”
Psaki appeared taken aback that a reporter would dare push back on the announcement.
“Well, Peter first of all just to go back to this chart, if you were vaccinated it could save your life,” the press sec. claimed.
“Because the public health leaders in our administration have made the determination — that is a way to make sure they are protected, their loved ones are protected…”
On Tuesday, reports surfaced claiming the CDC intended to re-impose mask rules for fully vaccinated people citing supposedly high Covid transmission rates.
“Federal health officials still believe fully vaccinated individuals represent a very small amount of transmission, according to the sources,” CNBC reported. “Still, some vaccinated people could be carrying higher levels of the virus than previously understood and potentially transmit the virus to others, they said.”
As we reported Saturday, constant Covid guidance reversals have caused Americans to grow fearful and distrustful of the medical establishment to the point that it may lose all credibility within the next three to five years, according to one top academic.
“I personally think that something has gone very wrong in the world. The whole medical bio-scientific underpinnings have been broken,” said Texas A&M professor of medicine Dr. Peter McCullough. “We’re off our moorings. We’re not having evidence-based medicine. We’re not seeing reasonable conclusions being made. We’re not even seeing regulatory decisions being followed.”
