The wife of Ukraine impeachment player Lt Col. Alexander Vindman mocked Donald Trump after a second gunman attempted to assassinate him on Sunday.
Rachel Vindman sent out a gloating Tweet Sunday night, not long after the incident.
“No ears were harmed,” Rachel Vindman Tweeted.
“Carry on with your Sunday afternoon.”
The Tweet was a reference to the ear injury sustained by the former president during the first assassination attempt, at Butler, Pennsylvania on 13 July. Trump turned his head at the moment the assassin fired, causing the bullets to miss their mark.
The nature of Trump’s injuries has been a source of speculation and even theories that he wasn’t even by a bullet at all. Some, including FBI director Christopher Wray, suggested it was only shrapnel that struck Trump’s ear, while others have claimed, bizarrely, that he wasn’t hit at all, and that the whole thing was an elaborate hoax, with Trump slamming a blood capsule into his ear to make it look like he’d been shot.
The response to Mrs Vindman’s Tweet was furious.
“Donald Trump’s ear has healed but you will always be ugly and retarded,” said one Twitter user.
“When Trump gets elected as President of the United States again we’re going to have to have a serious discussion about mass deportations and including some Americans in it as well,” wrote another.
In response to the criticism, Rachel Vindman doubled down.
“Sorry you’re triggered. I mean no I’m not. I don’t care a little bit ,” she Tweeted.
“Trump has been inciting violence against his enemies for years. He douses a situation in gasoline, lights a match, & walks away claiming no responsibility. Look at what is happening in Springfield, OH right now but he wants to claim he’s a victim. You cannot have it both ways.”
Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman was a central player in the Ukraine impeachment saga, which saw Trump investigated for comments he made during a phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
