A foreign suspect smuggling illegal aliens in a stolen truck tractor crashed into an overpass before bailing out and escaping back to Mexico, authorities say.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday in Webb County near the southern border.
Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers attempted to pull over a suspicious truck on a busy highway when the driver began making evasive maneuvers.
TxDPS released footage of the dangerous pursuit over the weekend.
The suspect exited the highway and led troopers on high-speed chase on surface streets and into a residential neighborhood.
Eventually, the truck went off-road, plowing through a park and then down a dirt road before slamming into a overpass and coming to a stop.
“Multiple illegal immigrants, including the smuggler, bailed out. The smuggler avoided apprehension by making it back to Mexico,” TxDPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez explained in a statement.
Troopers apprehended three illegal aliens from Mexico and turned them over to Border Patrol.
They discovered the truck had been reported stolen out of Laredo.
