A woman who was targeted by carjackers ultimately killed one of the suspects with his own gun in Las Vegas last month, according to police.
The harrowing incident unfolded in Nevada’s largest city on the evening of November 19, but details just emerged last week.
Two women parked their car in a residential neighborhood in North Las Vegas when another vehicle blocked them in and several armed men wearing masks jumped out, according to a police report reviewed by KOMO News.
A suspect removed one of the women from the driver’s seat and then attempted to commandeer the vehicle.
However, he struggled to start the car due to unfamiliarity with the technology.
He placed his gun in his lap as he fumbled around, giving the other woman an opportunity to grab it and run.
“The woman was then tackled by one of the men, police said. During the struggle, she shot the man who tackled her, prompting one of the other men to begin firing at her. She then ran and hid in a side yard of a nearby house until the police came,” KTLA reports.
Arriving officers found a deceased male with a head wound lying in the street.
The woman was initially handcuffed at the scene but later released.
“On December 2nd, LVMPD officers located Jaylin Morrison and took him into custody. The arrest report links Jaylin’s vehicle matching the vehicle of interest casing the victims. Detectives said Jaylin was a known associate with the deceased suspect,” Fox 5 Las Vegas reports.
“Arrest documents said Morrison cased the victims, blocked their car with his, had two other associates get out of the car with masks and guns, removed the victims from their car, entered the victim’s car with the intent to steal it and attempted to steal the vehicle.”
Morrison was charged with 2nd-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with the use of a deadly weapon, and attempted grand larceny of a vehicle.
An investigation is ongoing.
