California lawmakers in the Assembly Public Safety Committee blocked a measure to classify human trafficking of a minor as a serious felony under state law.
All six Democrats on the committee voted Tuesday against the proposal while the two Republicans were the only “yes” votes.
The results of the vote prompted members of the audience, some of whom had been trafficking victims themselves, to openly sob in front of the committee.
“The measure was halfway through the state’s legislative process, having cleared the State Senate unanimously with broad, bipartisan support. None of the six Democrats on the Assembly Public Safety Committee were willing to cast a vote on the measure Tuesday,” Yahoo News reported.
“Republican Assemblymen Juan Alanis and Tom Lackey were the bill’s only yes votes. Following the vote, those in the audience could be heard yelling ‘You’re horrible!’ and ‘You should be ashamed of yourselves!’ to the committee members. Human trafficking victims embraced and sobbed in front of the dais.”
Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D) was caught on a hot mic chuckling at the audience’s disheartened reaction.

The shocking vote defies logic and decency as it is, but it also prompted Elon Musk to ask another question: How is child trafficking in California “not already a serious felony?”

This is just another instance of Democrats appearing to run interference for pedophiles and human traffickers.
The Biden administration itself has recently taken steps to empower traffickers.
For example, the DHS in May ended the Trump-era program to rapidly test DNA matches between adults and accompanied children, which many argue would make it easier for child traffickers to smuggle children into the U.S.

Biden’s DOJ also recently removed several provisions from its Criminal Division’s Child Trafficking information webpage.
This also comes amid the media’s bizarrely unified condemnation of the anti-child trafficking thriller Sound of Freedom, which exceeded box office expectations following its July 4 release.
