In an annual report by the Norwegian Intelligence Service, the nation claims Russia has recently deployed aircraft and ships with nuclear capabilities in the first example of this in 30 years.
“Tactical nuclear weapons are a particularly serious threat,” the Norwegian intelligence report stated.
On Tuesday, two nuclear-capable Tu-95MS “Bears” accompanied by Su-30 fighter jets flew for over seven hours above the Bering Sea, which separates Russia and Alaska.
In addition to the aircraft, nuclear-armed ships and submarines from Russia’s Northern Fleet started going to sea for the first time since the Cold War.
The Norwegian intelligence report also noted, “The key part of the nuclear potential is on the submarines and surface ships of the Northern Fleet.”
In response, Russian state media outlet TASS commented on the nuclear exercise, stating, “All flights are performed by Russia’s Aerospace Forces in strict compliance with the international rules of using the airspace.”
This update comes as the world may already be on the brink of WWIII with the Ukraine war and U.S. assault on the Nord Stream pipeline setting the stage for a global conflict.
