Authorities arrested an illegal alien in his mid-20s who was posing as a minor while attending a high school in Ohio, according to reports.
Anthony Labrador, 24, was apprehended on Monday during a traffic stop on I-75 and charged with felony forgery by the Perrysburg Police Department (PPD).
Labrador had been living with a family who believed he was 16 years old and was in possession of an Ohio’s Driver’s License, Social Security number, Temporary Protective Status granted by the Department of Homeland Security, and “had submitted a completed application for a VISA with assistance of Advocating Opportunity which provides free legal assistance,” WTVG reports.
In November of 2023, Labrador reportedly contacted Perrysburg High School claiming to be a Venezuelan teenager who had been trafficked into the U.S.
His request to be enrolled in the school district was approved in early 2024 after he produced a fraudulent birth certificate indicating he was born in 2007.
A local family that had adopted children and welcomed exchange students agreed to take Labrador into their home in March of 2024, and in November, they were granted permanent legal guardianship of the 24-year-old imposter.
Last week, Labrador’s guardians were reportedly contacted by a woman with whom he shared a child who disclosed the Venezuelan’s true identity, providing supporting photographs and documentation – including another Ohio driver’s license and social security card.
PPD contacted federal immigration authorities who determined Labrador was illegally in the country after overstaying a visa which expired in 2023.
He was booked into Wood County Jail under the name Anthony Emmanuel Labrador-Sierra and ordered held on $50,000 bond.
“This case involves highly unusual and deceptive circumstances that impacted many local, state and federal agencies,” Superintendent of Perrysburg Schools Tom Hosler explained in a letter to parents.
“The school district has reviewed its actions regarding enrollment and is confident proper legal channels were followed to provide support for an individual presenting themselves as an unaccompanied minor as spelled out in the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.”
An investigation is ongoing.
