Joe Biden’s Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm suggested that the Florida condo collapse could have been caused by “climate change.”
When asked by CNN’s Erica Hill if climate change “played a role” in the Surfside condo collapse, Granholm said “we don’t know fully” but used the segment to discuss the perils of climate change.
“Obviously we don’t know fully, but we do know that the seas are rising,” Granholm said. “We know that we’re losing inches and inches of beaches, not just in Florida, but all around.”
“So, this is a phenomenon that will continue, whether it – we’ll have to wait and see with what the analysis is for this building – but the issue about resiliency and making sure we adapt to this changing climate, that’s gonna need to mean levies need to be built, that means seawalls need to be built, that means infrastructure needs to be built,” she continued.
Granholm then said that “forests need to be cleared” and “power lines need to be buried” to somehow prevent adverse weather events, and that means lots more spending by the federal government.
“There’s so much investment that we need to do to protect ourselves from climate change, but also to address it and mitigate it, and hopefully these infrastructure bills, when taken together, will make a huge step and allow America to lead again.”
Who knew Biden’s energy secretary knew so much about climate change!
Hopefully Granholm knows something about energy as well, but given the skyrocketing gas prices, wanton cyberattacks on U.S. energy infrastructure and return to foreign energy dependence in recent months, that may be wishful thinking.
