A whistleblower inside the New York City Police Department leaked internal video featuring NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea urging officers to get vaxxed by Friday, or forgo a paycheck.
In an internal video memo circulated among NYPD staff on Wednesday, NYC’s top cop looks nervous as he tells officers to get vaccinated before the city’s mandated deadline Friday.
Exclusive: NYPD Commissioner Delivers Ultimatum to Cops – “Get Vaccinated by Friday, Or No Pay.”
“We’re at the end of the wire here. It is now Wednesday morning. By Friday you’re supposed to be vaccinated,” Shea says, going on to admit he doesn’t have all the answers.
Shea notes officers vaccinated by Friday’s deadline could still be eligible to receive a $500 bonus incentive.
Officers who don’t get vaccinated by Friday were told to still come to work if scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, however, they’re told they won’t receive a paycheck.
“So, what if you haven’t been vaccinated by Friday? Come to work Saturday, Sunday if you are scheduled to work,” Shea says. “On Monday when this thing really starts being enforced, we’re going to check your vaccination status and if you’re not vaccinated, no pay, and you’re gonna be not able to work.”
The mandates have prompted thousands of city workers to protest as they seem poised to lose their jobs come Monday, which could lead to trash flooding the streets, less cops and fewer open firehouses and ambulances.
NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio said he’s banking on the deadline and prospect of no pay to pressure workers into getting vaccinated.
“We expected that a lot of the vaccinations would happen toward the end of the deadline,” de Blasio said. “We also know a lot of people make the decision once they really realize that they’re not going to get paid. That’s just the human reality.”

As we all know the Department of Health has put forth regulations regarding the Covid vaccine.
We’re at the end of the wire here. It is now Wednesday morning. By Friday you’re supposed to be vaccinated.
Again, what does it mean if you haven’t been vaccinated?
Well, what it means is starting on Monday you will be put in a no-pay status.
I know there’s a lot of questions about this. I wish I had all the answers. I don’t at this point in time. Some of this is still being worked out with City Hall and collective bargaining and unions and things of that nature.
But that point I just said is the critical point I wanted to get to you today. You have to be vaccinated by Friday. In fact, they’re still doing this $500 if you get vaccinated between Oct. 20 and Oct. 29 and that’s Friday’s date.
So, what if you haven’t been vaccinated by Friday? Come to work Saturday, Sunday if you are scheduled to work.
Again, if you’re looking to get that $500 and you go Saturday, you’re probably not gonna get it because of this 20th-29th date range.
On Monday when this thing really starts being enforced, we’re going to check your vaccination status and if you’re not vaccinated, no pay, and you’re gonna be not able to work.
I don’t think anyone wants that to happen. I’m sure you don’t want it to happen. I certainly don’t; we need you out there.
Please take advantage of the next couple days and get vaccinated.
We have medical working on additional sites. You can do it at home on your own if you want. The vaccinations are available literally everywhere at this point in time, but you gotta do it now to be able to help me and to help the city and to keep you and your partners and your family safe from this. Alright? That’s the main message.
A couple more things: What about reasonable accommodations?
Today is extremely important. We are getting people with requests for reasonable accommodations, whether its for religious purposes, maybe some medical issue. Those are going they’re all detailed in this memo that went out and it was emailed to everybody…but here’s what you really need to know. Today, if you have not sent in a reasonable accommodation request to OEO, if they have not gotten it by today, you send it in tomorrow and you don’t get the vaccine, it’s gonna be reviewed but you’re gonna go into no-pay starting on Monday. You’re not getting paid; no one wants that.
If you have delivered to OEO and they have received it any day before today, or up to today then the period of time while they’re reviewing it, you are going to get paid, then you can just comply with the testing piece. That is really important to that small number of people that’s requesting a reasonable accommodation.
After today you better have the vaccine, or you’re not getting paid, alright?
These are critical times. I know there’s a lot of other questions you have regarding pensions, what about health benefits? I can’t tell you what rules don’t exist yet so I don’t want to give you bad information. I know the unions are hitting me on that, rightfully so. I know that this is being discussed with the Office of Labor Relations. A lot of this will probably be negotiated at some point. I know the teachers who – even if the go into no-pay – they were allowed to keep their health insurance. That might happen with you, but I’m not sure. Please don’t take the risk, and definitely no one wants to go without pay. Ok? Thank you for what you do. Stay safe and God bless you.
