A high school in France came under siege this week when a hooded suspect shot fireworks at the entrance as students and staff made their way inside, according to reports.
The shocking incident unfolded just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Mantes-la-Jolie, a commune in the department of Île-de-France.
Footage of the attack has been circulating on social media.
Students can be seen walking towards the entrance as it is lit up by multiple explosions.
The suspect, clad all in black, can be seen brandishing an improvised weapon and also discharging it in another direction before calmly jogging away.
The projectiles narrowly missed hitting staff members, who were reportedly targeted.
One student was treated for a calf injury at the school medical office.
“This is not the first time that the Jean-Rostand high school has been the target of fireworks explosives. On April 3, this comprehensive high school was forced to close its doors for a day after ‘mortar throwing’ inside the establishment,” Le Figaro reports.
Authorities were still searching for a suspect only identified as “tall,” according to the latest available updates.
