Georgia’s Republican Party is filing suit against Fulton County after election officials there announced plans to reopen election offices over the weekend so that voters can hand-return absentee ballots.
In a press release dated Friday 1 November, the Georgia Republican Party slammed officials in Fulton County for “blatantly disregard[ing] state law by accepting ballots after the deadline.”
As the release notes, Georgia law clearly states that “all drop boxes shall be closed when the advance voting period ends.”
The Georgia Republican Party calls for an immediate end to the reopenings and for “those willfully breaking Georgia law” to be “held accountable.”
The press release also notes that the choice of office location clearly suggests a determined effort to sway the vote in the county towards the Democrats.
“To make matters worse, the four election office locations are situated in areas of the county that will clearly favor Democrat candidates.”
On social media, users called for Governor Kemp to get involved.
One user Tweeted: “Fulton County stole the 2020 election from the people of GA and then gaslit GA citizens when they got pissed about it. Fani Willis is a MONSTER and 90% of the other ‘officials’ there are corrupt. Something needs to be done about Fulton County and I think every county should HOLD their vote count until @GovKemp forces Fulton to finalize their count. Fani Willis will not away with what she did in 2020 again.”
Another wrote, simply: “Time for the Governor to step up and prov [sic] he has a spine.”
