Texas energy provider Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking residents to reduce their energy consumption to avoid blackouts — just as temperatures in the state are reaching record highs.
“We will be conducting a thorough analysis with generation owners to determine why so many units are out of service,” said ERCOT Vice President of Grid Planning and Operations Woody Rickerson. “This is unusual for this early in the summer season.”
If demand outpaces available supply of energy, ERCOT will begin instituting its grid protection measures — controlled blackouts similar to the one implemented by ERCOT under orders from the Biden administration during the freak winter storm that swept through the south in February.

When demand is higher than electric supply, ERCOT will begin its emergency operations to protect the grid from an uncontrolled outage.
The council’s emergency operations has three different levels and begins when reserves drop below 2,300 megawatts and aren’t expected to recover within 30 minutes. Level 2 begins when those reserves go below 1,750 MW and Level 3 starts when that number hits 1,375.
If reserves drop below 1,000 MW and aren’t expected to go back up in the next 30 minutes, ERCOT then institutes controlled outages as a last resort, much like what Texans experienced in February and years prior.
On Sunday, Austin reached 99 degrees, making it the warmest day since October 11, 2020.
ERCOT’s announcement is particularly questionable given the company assured consumers last month that it expects “low risk of emergency conditions” based on its output availability.
“Low risk” to rolling blackouts in less than a month?
Notably, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed an executive order last week that would develop requirements to shore up the state’s energy infrastructure.
“A top priority we had this legislative session was to fix the power grid to prevent any other power grid failures in the future,” Abbott said Tuesday. “The Legislature passed comprehensive reforms to fix all of the flaws that led to the power failure.”
ERCOT’s announcement appears to be just another social engineering exercise in training the public to get used to using less energy as part of the Democrats’ Green New Deal and Great Reset deindustrialization agenda.
