Despite saying during the televised debate with Donald Trump she would not be “taking away anybody’s guns,” Kamala Harris has now made another about-face and said she supports an “assault weapon” ban.
The Vice President surprised many viewers during the debate by claiming she owns a gun herself, and saying she had no plans to engage in gun confiscations should she win November’s election.
But now, just three days later, in her first solo interview, Kamala Harris has said that “assault weapons” are “weapons of war” and that a ban would be “consistent” with the Second Amendment.
Kamala: "I feel very strongly that it is consistent with the second amendment and your right to own a gun to say that we need an assault weapons ban."

“I am a gun owner and Tim Walz, my running mate, is also a gun owner. We’re not taking anyone’s guns away. I support the Second Amendment and I support reasonable gun safety laws,” Harris said in the interview on Los Angeles’s ABC 7, on Friday.
“I feel very strongly that it is consistent with the Second Amendment and your right to own a gun to also say we need an assault weapons ban. They’re literally tools of war,” Harris continued. “I say we need universal background checks. The majority of NRA members support that. Why? It’s just reasonable. You just might want to know.”
President Trump has used the Vice President’s “flip-flopping” as a consistent line of attack during his presidential campaign, criticizing her for changing her position on immigration, fracking, policing and a host of other issues.
