An illegal alien wanted for murder has been deported to his home country of Honduras, according to federal authorities.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the apprehension and removal of 35-year-old Edwin Fernando Figueroa-Martinez.
Figueroa-Martinez is a Honduran national who illegally entered the U.S. at an unknown location and date, indicating he is one of millions of ‘gotaways’ currently lurking throughout the country.
Figueroa-Martinez was a fugitive from justice in Honduras, where he was wanted for murder.
Officers with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago tracked the Honduran down and arrested him on Aug. 15 in Lyons, Illinois.
On Nov. 25, ICE’s Air Operations Unit coordinated a flight to return Figueroa-Martinez to his home country and transfer him to the custody of local officials.
“As federal law enforcement officers, we are duty bound to protect communities across the U.S.,” said ERO Chicago Field Office Director Sam Olson.
“We will do everything within our authority to locate, arrest, and detain those noncitizens that attempt to hide within our nation from being held responsible for crimes in their country of origin.”
Authorities continue to catch dangerous foreign criminals illegally present in the U.S.
