President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday he’s nominating former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead the DOJ, breaking the news just hours after Trump’s first choice, ex-Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), decided to drop out of contention.
MSNBC and CNN analysts are predictably responding to Bondi’s nomination by attacking her while also admitting she’s “qualified” and “experienced.”
On MSNBC, viewers were told they “should all fear” Pam Bondi “because she’s competent.”
“We may not agree with her ideologically, but she actually knows how to do this job. So, if anybody on the Democratic side or anyone who cared about liberty or justice was thinking, ‘Well, maybe Matt Gaetz will screw this up and that will give us some time.’ No. Pam Bondi knows what she’s doing about immigration,” said an MSNBC guest.
“Remember, Florida is one of those states that’s been very aggressive about migrants and deportation and moving people to different states and everything else like that,” the guest continued. “Florida has enacted all sorts of rules and laws to curtail students and what they can do on campuses and finding legal justifications for manipulating education money. She is a dangerous and effective pick, and that’s frankly worse than what we would have got with Matt Gaetz, even with the deplorable moral background that he has.”

CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig explained, “Pam Bondi is, without a question, qualified to be Attorney General. She’s been a prosecutor for 20 years in Florida. For eight of those, she was the Attorney General of the state. That’s a very big, very complicated job‚ and that level of experience is on par with, or better than most United States Attorneys General that we’ve seen over the past 50 years or so.”

During another MSNBC segment, anchor Alex Wagner complained about Bondi making appearances on and even guest-hosting programs on Fox News.
Wagner said Bondi previously promoted “the Big Lie that Trump won the [2020] election” and that she was part of the president-elect’s legal team that challenged election results in the courts following Biden’s alleged victory.
“She [Bondi] has been one of his most loyal foot soldiers ever since then. She even stood by Trump’s side during his Manhattan criminal trials and defended him outside the courthouse. All of that is why Donald Trump chose Pam Bondi to be his attorney general. She will be every bit the loyalist that Matt Gaetz would have been, just with a little more legal experience and a little less baggage.”
