President Donald Trump speaks to the nation, making a major announcement about the Department of Education and signing several executive orders.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked by a reporter on Thursday what she’d say to critics of Trump’s plan to abolish the department, and she answered, “Where was their criticism of our nation’s failing test scores for the last several decades?”
She added, “The Department of Education was founded in the 1970s and since then we have spent more than $3 trillion at this federal bureaucracy. What has been the return on that investment for the American taxpayer? Levels that are less than ideal.”
