New York City Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio defended the vaccine mandates he imposed upon the city, claiming “human beings do well” when manipulated with a “carrot and a stick.”
Because that’s not totalitarian or anything.
“Human beings do well when they have carrot and stick. So, a mandate helps people to realize it’s time,” de Blasio said Tuesday on MSNBC.

De Blasio then salivated over the prospect of vaccinating young children, despite the fact children are the least at-risk demographic to COVID, with a fatality rate of about 0.005% of those under 18.
“The Biden administration can do something else that will really help us all move forward. Speed the vaccine for the 5 to 11 year-olds. It’s time for that,” de Blasio said.
“If we can get that last piece done – because right now we can vaccinate kids twelve and up. We’re having a lot of success in New York City, getting that done. But we need that last piece. And we need every child in America back in school.”
“Get that vaccine ready for the 5 to 11 year-olds, and then there’s not even a question anymore about our schools. Everyone in a school building at that point could be vaccinated, should be vaccinated,” he added.
De Blasio announced vaccine mandates for NYC students and school staff just minutes after the FDA formally approved the Pfizer injection on Monday.
“This will require that all staff of every kind, principles, teachers, custodians, food service, you name it, needs to have at least one dose by Sept. 27,” he declared.
