Paris prosecutors have launched an investigation over “suspicions of illicit financing” into Marine Le Pen’s campaign during the 2022 presidential election.

From the AP:
The office told The Associated Press that the judicial probe opened July 2 into allegations of accepting a financial loan, misappropriation of property, fraud and forgery. It did not give details.
Le Pen hasn’t commented.
The preliminary investigation was opened after a report from the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing dating from 2023. The body is responsible for monitoring candidates’ expenses. In French elections, candidates are barred from exceeding a certain spending limit.
“I’m very surprised because our campaign expenses were approved in December 2022 and refunded in February 2023,” said an unnamed official from the National Rally.
“We don’t know what it’s about. We found out that an investigation had been opened, like everybody else, on [French television] BFMTV this morning,” he said.
The announcement comes just days after a coalition of far-left and communist parties won 182 seats in the National Assembly in the second round election.
Barely a day has passed since the election "victory" of the hard left in France and they're already launching a criminal investigation into their main political opponent, Marine Le Pen. You've got to hand it to the left, they understand the friend-enemy distinction. https://t.co/5eV0JstU44 pic.twitter.com/7US1qc3nsp

French President Emmanuel Macron had decided to ally with the far-left to deny Le Pen’s party an absolute majority in the National Assembly.
The result was 182 seats for the communist New Popular Front, 168 for Macron’s “Together” party, and 143 for Le Pen’s National Rally, leading communists to swarm the streets to celebrate their victory and taunt the populist right.
But when you look at the popular vote in the second round – the sum total of each individual French ballot cast – it was actually a landslide National Rally victory with over 10 million votes.
Notably, the Paris district is the only one Le Pen’s party didn’t win — and the city from where the probe was launched into her campaign.
There’s a saying in France: “Paris is not France” and the election results prove that.

This shows the left’s persecution of their political enemies isn’t just limited to the United States, where Democrats have waged unprecedented lawfare, information warfare, and Deep State-led soft coups against former President Donald Trump.
