President Donald Trump posted a message to Truth Social on Thursday, saying he’d be calling the “great American hockey team” to “spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada.”
The 47th President wrote that with “FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY,” Canada “will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.”
Previous comments about Canada becoming a U.S. state triggered many Canucks so badly that they disgracefully booed the American National Anthem during a match between the two hockey teams last weekend.
The disrespectful act caused the U.S. team to engage in three fights within the first ten seconds of last weekend’s game where America went on to win 3-1.
The general manager of the U.S. team said earlier this week that he would welcome a visit from Trump to Thursday night’s 4 Nations Face-Off final where America and Canada are again set to square off.
However, the president explained in his social media post that he “will be speaking before the Governors tonight in D.C., and will sadly, therefore, be unable to attend.”
Trump added, “But we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome. Good luck to everybody, and have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting!”
The gathering Trump referred to is the annual “Republican Governors Association Meeting.”
Thursday’s game will take place in Boston, Massachusetts at 8 p.m. ET.
