Joe Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki admitted that Biden wasn’t referring to reaching “bipartisanship” in Congress when touting his goal of finding “unity” in America.
As Biden refuses to meet with Congressional Republican leadership and allow Democrats to shoehorn their radical proposals without a single Republican vote, reporters have begun to ask Psaki what Biden meant when he was speaking of “unity” over the last few months.
“What does that say about unity?” a reporter asked from the briefing room on Monday. “There’s a lot of folks – you’re talking tens of millions of people – they’re concerned about that this doesn’t seem like unity at all.”
“Do you think tens of millions of people are concerned about him not meeting with [House Minority Leader] Kevin McCarthy?” Psaki snarked.
“No, I think tens of millions of people are concerned about HR 1, and budget reconciliation, and going with that 50 vote threshold. I think that was the concern,” the reporter responded.
“I’m not sure the polling bears that out,” Psaki snapped back. “But I will say, that the president’s view is that bringing the country together is bringing the American people together. So when I say he’s focused on, you know, bringing people together, bringing Democrats and Republicans together, he’s not talking about solving bipartisanship in this zip code here.”
This is a lie. Biden’s constantly harped on unifying America throughout his campaign. The theme of his “inauguration” was even called “America United.”
“On this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together, uniting our people, and uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause,” Biden said at his coronation.
“With unity we can do great things, important things. Without unity, there is no peace. Only bitterness and fury. No progress, only exhausting outrage. No nation, only a state of chaos. This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge, and unity is the path forward.”
But his actions, coupled with Democrats in Congress, have signaled the exact opposite messaging on a range of issues.
“The unity messaging coming from the White House is failing to convince the voters he needs most to truly bring the country together,” Roll Call reported last month. “With an almost evenly divided Congress, the administration’s refusal to include Republicans as partners in the COVID-19 relief discussions first exposed the emptiness of his calls for unity. As did the decision by congressional Democrats to ram through the $1.9 trillion package using reconciliation instead of negotiation. It’s hard to imagine a less unifying message to send Republican leaders.“
“More concerning for the Biden team, when drilling down into specifics, is the fact that outside the Democratic base, voters oppose many of the administration’s economic decisions so far.”
The fact is, the Democrats appear to be more interested in accumulating power as fast as possible before potentially losing their majority in the 2022 midterms.
