Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) said she would refer the four Democrat mayors facing grilling from Congress for criminal prosecution over their harmful “sanctuary city” policies.

The mayors of four major cities, Michelle Wu of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver and Eric Adams of New York, faced questions from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Wednesday for undermining President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts.

During the hearing, Rep. Luna said she would refer the four mayors to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution.

“After this line of questioning, it’s very clear that these policies that you have all implicated are active and alive and well in your cities are in direct violation with 8 U.S. Code § 1324 and is a federal offense. You all speak of a broken immigration system, and yet here guys you are aiding and abetting in that entire process,” Luna said.

“Open-border policies, which is something that you guys are talking about, hurts people on both sides, meaning the people that are coming here illegally and then American citizens as well. I do not think you guys are bad people, but I think you’re ideologically misled.”

“Which is why, unfortunately, based on your responses, I’m all going to be criminally referring you to the Department of Justice for investigation, and as soon as I leave here, these will be going over to Pam Bondi,” Luna added.

Other Republicans on the committee, such as Reps. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) and Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) also excoriated the mayors for obstructing Trump’s mass deportation of illegal aliens.

Mayor Wu has repeatedly defended Boston’s sanctuary city policies, such as prohibiting Boston police from interrogating, detaining or arresting a person solely for non-criminal immigration enforcement purposes.

“We want immigrants to know that it is safe for everyone, to be able to feel comfortable reaching out for emergency services, to report a crime, to ask for help, and generally to be part of our community,” she said in November.

Chicago Mayor Johnson and Denver Mayor Johnston likewise pledged to defy Trump’s mass deportation agenda.

Mayor Adams, however, said he’s willing to work with Trump’s “Border Czar” Tom Homan on mass deportation operations.

The four mayors had in January been summoned to testify before the committee to answer for the sanctuary city policies, which include limiting cooperation between local and state law enforcement with federal immigration officials.
